Hello everyone,
As promised, I now invite you to share your thoughts on the two poems that we discussed in class, on our reflection on literature and about your hopes and aspirations in life. This is also a good opportunity to present the book or the author that you would like to work on this session.
See you on Thursday,
Olivier

Everyone knows what literature is... until they are asked to give the definition...
ReplyDeleteI still don't know what book I would like to work on, but I really enjoyed The Pacific Warrior and The curious incident of the dog in the night time - two REALLY different books but I think there are two books that one should undeniably read.
Ariane
What seems to be "real" literature is not the knid of book I used to read. I think at the very least literature should be somthing that makes you learn something or think about something. Just like when I read a story and I realize afterward there is a "message" that each person could find useful; for instance, the "friendship" in flowers for algernon!
ReplyDeleteWell now that we tried to solve what's the real definition of literature, the situation kind of became more complex than before. Especially when you said : it seems like more the book is fun and interesting, less it looks like literature.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, it feels like it.
Children of freedom from Marc Levy looks like a good combination of both. I still have to think about it.
Literature, at the very least, I believe, is part of a particular culture, with the fonction of carrying a message within its content, just like Shakespear had a impact on English literature and Molière did on French literature. Furthermore, being someone who enjoys learning about different cultures, whether it is a different face from the english, american or scottish literature, I enjoy learning it through books. Speaking of books, I haven't found the one I wanted to read yet, but I'm looking into it.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the definition of literature ?
ReplyDeleteI don't read a lot because I don't like to, the result of it, is that I don't know much about literature. For me, it seems taht if there are complicated and beatiful words in a book, it may be considered as literature. For the choice of my book, I pick Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte because it's written in Old English and because there are a lot of complicated words. I finish to read it last december so it's fresh in memory.
For me, literature has to be reflected and esthetic. There can be modern works that are considered like literature and as well as old but it is hard to define which styles are in that category.
ReplyDeleteI think the shadow of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon is a book I would like to work on.
As for me, literature is the way to motive imagination by the means of words. It can be fiction or also a realistic story but it always come to make the reader think about some aspect of life that is not threaten in his every day life. Literature is a good mean to explore imaginary concepts or ideas and bring them to life, for instance; Jules Vernes.
ReplyDeleteI think he's the author that I would like to work on this session for his imaginary world but still I'm hesitation with H.P Lovecraft who has his own imaginary and complex universe.
