First class

Hello everyone,

I hope you are enjoying your first novel and that you had some time to review the poems that we read this week. I await your reflexions and invite you to consider the following elements: "What symbols are used in the two poems and how to they help your understanding of the poems?", What do the titles reveal about the poems in these two cases?"

See you in class,
O.Pelletier

  1. The first novel that we are reading I find it interesting but confusing at the same time. I don't really understand why the author named it the Kiss of the Fur Queen when you only hear from her when the protagonist wins the race. Then again, I hope that she will have a major role in this novel. So far it's good :)

  2. I dislike reading personally. Although it is true some books are interesting over my will to avoid reading. Kiss of the fur queen seems to be a good book, but I'm sure I'll need some explanations due to my lack of reading. I'm glad there's a blog for it, but I may find it annoying to reach here to get answers.

    we'll see.

  3. I already read it and let me tell you it's less confusing the second time around. Still, there are some parts where you feel the need to scream "what the hell is going on here!".

    Good stuff... good stuff.

  4. I felt a bit confuse at the start, I really need to read twice sometime because of the vocabulary. It is my first time with that kind of novel and so far I like the set up !

  5. I liked the poem "Out Out" and "Penny", but I prefered "Out Out" because it tells a story that is easy to understand. I thought "Penny" was a little bit too long.

  6. In first the book kiss of the fur Queen was not really interesting, I mean I was like Oh my god the book is going to be really boring but actually I think that i'm going to like it. For the poems that we read, I found that they were a little bit confusing, the theme of Out Out and Penny were dark in my opinion but good.

  7. I liked the poem "I like to see it lap the Miles" because when reading it out loud, it seems like it has a rythm. It was also really easier than "To a Locomotive in Winter". I prefer short poems.

  8. I'm not sure I like our novel. I am an avid reader, but I'm really much more into action and adventure than psychological evolution, and things like that. Also, I may be a traditionalist, but I don't like when a story goes in every direction possible. I am more or less aware of the realities of Amerindian folk in the '50s, and I am willing to learn more, but it has to move along faster, and not crawl on the ground and then jump miles ahead. I hope it does get better.

Also, I did not much like 'Penny', but 'Out, out' 's theme is dark, and there is action, and therefore I liked it. I find that, in poems, either something NEEDS to happen, either it needs to carry a special, unusual theme.
